Palladium is Microsoft's Bid to Own the Internet: Imagine having to pay rent to use your own data on your own computer. In this Robert X. Cringley analysis, Microsoft's newly announced "security" scheme will encrypt all the documents on your computer, and encrypt all the communications between Windows applications and between Windows computers. Cringley explains the real purpose: "... to take technology owned by nobody (TCP/IP) and replace it with technology owned by Redmond." Call it TCP/MS. [PBS]
