White House Announces New Space Initiative: In a brief policy speech at NASA, President Bush called for a paltry $1 billion in funding for NASA. New goals were outlined: to create a new launch vehicle, phase out the Shuttle and U.S. participation in the International Space Station, establish a human staging/manufacturing colony on the Moon (starting in 2015) and set our sights on a human mission to Mars.
